Blush & Bling

Hey guys,

During my b-day haul I picked up a new blush and highlighter, and I’m absolutely loving them. I usually choose really pinky blushes but decided to switch it up with Taos by Nars. The highlighter I picked up was BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal.

Nars Taos Blush – The actual description of the product is “desert rose with shimmer”  but I find it more of a terra-cotta color. Like most Nars blushes, it’s extremely creamy and is a dream to blend. The pigment is also on point, so you have to be careful to not go overboard when you apply. I’ve had that issue a few times, but it’s easy to just blend it out more or to dab over it with a Beauty Blender. I’m pretty pale right now and think the color looks really nice which surprised me. I’m most excited for when I have a bit of a tan because I think the orangey tones and shimmer will look best with darker skin.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. – THis is my first BECCA product and it has sold me on the brand. I went in looking for the Rose Gold color, but it was out of stock so I decided to go with the one I’d heard the most about. I’m actually really happy that I was forced to get this one because it looks great with any skin tone, where I think the Rose Gold would look better with a tan or on a darker skin tone. As far as the actual product goes, it’s very easy to blend, has great pigment, and it’s easy to build up depending on how much of a glow you’re looking for.  As with any highlighter, especially one this pigmented, you want to be careful not to go overboard.

The Nars Taos is on the left and the Becca highlighter in Opal is on the right. I went really heavy on the Taos swatch so just remember you can go much lighter than that.

2015 Beauty Wish List

Hey guys,

So i’ve talked in other posts about how important it is for me to have a wish list. If I don’t have one i’ll buy things I really don’t need/want. It’s also a way to control spending. After reading a million blog posts, watching youtube videos, and creeping hardcore on Sephora, i’ve come up with some beauty products that I really want to try in 2015. Of course this will probably change and new things will come out that I want to try, but it’s a good start and a way to organize my life. I also have my Birthday coming up in a week so of course i’ve already planned with T that we’re going to go shopping in Tampa or Jacksonville. So this list will come in handy muahaha! I used Polyvore to make this because i’m definitely a visual person.

Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base – I’ve used the Too Faced eye primer for a really long time. It’s worked great but i’m just kind bored and ready to try something new. I’ve heard amazing things about the Nars, and i’ve never been unhappy with any of their products.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Oil – Ok, so this isn’t exactly a new product, but it’s one I need to repurchase because i’m almost out. I’m so bummed I forgot to include it in my 2014 Beauty Favorites because it’s honestly my holy grail hair product and I can’t  live without it. It makes your hair sooo shiny but doesn’t make it greasy at all!

Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – I am so excited to try this product. Right now i’m using the Dior Star Foundation and I really like it, but i’m just ready to try something new. I was recommended this by my friend Brittany who also likes really dewy foundations, and I’ve also seen it a million times on Jaclyn Hill videos. I’ll probably wait to get this until i’m a little darker and need a new foundation color so I don’t waste he Dior.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Rose Gold – I’m always on the hunt for the perfect highlighter, and I like that this color is so different from any others i’ve tried. I’ve never used a Becca product before, but I’ve heard really great things about the brand.

Living Proof Full Thickening Cream – I’m always on the search for big hair because my hair is flat as can be.  I currently use the Living Proof Full Shampoo and Conditioner and I really like it, so I imagine this product is pretty awesome as well. I’ll probably pick up the small size first to make sure I love it since I already have forty million volumizing products.

Origins Nightamins and Plantscriptions Eye Cream – I’m considering switching up my skin routine. I’m currently using the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, but it’s pricey and runs out way to quickly. I’ve heard great things about Origins and I definitely want to start using an eye cream.

BECCA Mineral Blush in Songbird – I have a lot of pinky/peachy/coral blushes, so I want to switch it up a bit and get a color i’ve never tried. This is considered a peachy pink but it’s definitely more on the orangey/pink side. I’ve also considered Nars Sin or Dolce Vita or one of the Make Up Forever HD blushes as well. I think going in and swatching will help me make a final decision.

Beauty Blender – I don’t know how I haven’t picked this up yet. I see it everywhere and it gets rave reviews. I currently just use the Sephora Pro Airbrush for both foundation and concealer, but if this is amazing like everyone says I might switch over.

Zoeva Brushes – I’ve stalked the Zoeva website a lot in the last few months, and I’m dying to try these brushes. Most of my brushes are the Sephora Pros, but the Zoeva’s get great reviews and they are a heck of a lot cheaper. I have a feeling the shipping is super expensive, but I might just have to go for it.

Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in 60’s Pink – I’m always on the search for the perfect nude lipstick. I saw this on someone on the Sephora Beauty Board and I absolutely loved it. It’s more of a pinky nude, and the reviews say it’s moisturizing and pigmented. Sold!

Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk – Wahhh, I love this stuff. My mom bought it over Christmas break and I used it the whole time. I live in Florida currently where it’s nice and humid, so going back to PA for 3 weeks dryed out my skin sooo bad. This stuff completely saved it and made my skin feel amazing.

Formula X New Neutrals in Heart Stopping – Even though we’re just getting into winter, i’m constantly planning for /pretending it’s spring and summer. This is such a a great spring color and reminds me of Easter eggs!

That’s all i’ve got for now. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried any of these products before or if you have any products in mind you think are worth trying!

2014 Beauty Favorites

Hey guys,

I can’t believe this year is over! I’m sure you’re all tired of hearing that, but it really does blow my mind. I’ve used so many amazing products this year, and I decided I should narrow it down to 10 all time favs. These are products that I absolutely can’t live without and I feel could not be replaced by another brand/product.

Urban Decay Naked Palette – I’m sure you’re all tired of seeing this posted on my blog and a million other blogs, but it really is one of the best neutral palettes. All of the colors have amazing color payoff and blend like a dream. My favorite look with this is a smokey eye.

GLAMGLOW Thirstymud Mask – This product really saved me when I went to PA for three weeks during Christmas break. My skin was actually dying and crazy dry, so I stuck this baby on and it was a miracle. I still use this about every week or two in Florida because my skin is always really dry anyway and it just makes your skin feel amazing and hydrated.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black & White – I’ve never been so obsessed with a perfume before, and i’ve also never thought about combining two scents. These go together perfectly. The black is sweet and the white is floral, and they are amazing separately as well. The idea of a rollerball is also genus, and I’ll probably only be buying them from now on. They are great for travel/throwing in your purse, and they are so much cheaper.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl – Gawd this really is the prefect red for everyone, and the pencil makes it so much easier to apply. This has great staying power and is really pigmented as well.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy – Lippies really are my absolute fav so of course I had to put two different ones in this post. This is just an amazingly fun bright color. I wore it out on NYE so check out my NYE Glam post if you want to see it on. It looks more red in this pic but it’s actually a bright fuchsia. This was my first Urban Decay lipstick, and I should have known it would be amazing just like all of their other products. I will definitely be picking up more in the future. It feels amazingly hydrating on the lips and has great color pay off.

Formula X Nail Polish in Gemini – This was another product that appeared in my last post (NYE Glam). The Formula X line is amazing and stays on forever without chipping. I used to always go to the salon to get gels, but this is so much more convenient and a heck of a lot easier to get off.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla – This is the best concealer I’ve tried for under eye circles. It covers beautifully and doesn’t crease. I do set mine with powder because I live in Florida where it’s crazy humid and hot, but it’s so much better than anything else

Sephora Pro Blending Brush #27 – This brush is my baby, and I have three of them and want fifty more. It’s a bit fluffy in this pic because I gave it a bath earlier today. I use this mostly for blending shadows, but I’ve also loved it for my blending in my concealer and for bronzer when i’m contouring.

Beautyblender Blender Cleanser Solid – This brush cleaner is so quick and easy. You definitely have to still deep clean your brushes, but this is perfect for a quick wash and it’s really convenient for when you’re traveling.

Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown – I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT THIS! If you don’t have this you should go out and get it right now. It makes doing your brows sooo easy, and I think it gives a really natural look. I’m considering changing over to soft brown to make it even more natural, but I do like this color as well.

Makeup for Mom

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of posts the last few weeks. I went home for Christmas break and wanted to spend as much time as possible with my friends and fam. I had an amazing trip, and I even got a new blogging camera for Christmas! While I was home, my mom and I ventured to Sephora and she picked up some new makeup and face products. She always has trouble finding a foundation that matches her skin tone, so she ended up trying on a million different brands including Clinique, Dr. Jart, and Laura Mercier. She has oily skin and rosacea and also wanted something that didn’t look cakey or gather in wrinkles. If you have any of these problems, give those three brands a try.

Laura Mercier Mineral Powder in Classic Beige – This was the last foundation my mom tried and it looked amazing! All of the others looked really cakey and we thought this would do the same especially because it’s a powder. It went on smooth and gave a natural finish and the color was really warm.

Sephora Pro Flawless Powder Brush #40 – As you all know from previous posts, I absolutely love the Sephora Pro brushes, so of course we picked out a powder brush from that collection. These brushes are so soft and always pick up just the right amount of product and last forever.

Laura Mercier Smooth Focus Pressed Setting Powder – I’ve heard great things about this powder and now my mom carries it everywhere with her and loves it. It’s prefect for controlling shine and oil, and it also helps correct redness.

Cover FX Anti-Aging Primer – I’m always on the prowl for new primers, so I was really excited my mom got a brand I had never tried before. I was impressed that it not only gives a good base for foundation but also doubles as an anti-aging serum. I wasn’t in love with the texture because it’s more greasy than I’m used to, but I can look past that because it does a good job otherwise.

Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk – This is the perfect product for winter skin or skin that is really dry in general like mine. I will be purchasing this on my next trip to Sephora, and I was sneakily using it the whole time I was home (sorry mom). This stuff is lightweight and absorbs quickly. Absolutely love it!

DERMAdoctor Calm Cool & Corrected – This product helps calm rosacea and is also anti-aging. This is the prefect product for my mom and it’s really helping with her redness. This was also a new brand for me, so I’m interested in checking out the rest of the line after seeing how well this product has worked already.

Initially the girl at Sephora was trying foundations on my mom that targeted all of my moms concerns at once. What she decided at the end was it was better to use prep products like the DERMAdoctor, Argan Milk, and the FX primer to target those specific things and then use a more basic foundation. If you guys are having similar problems or have a lot of skin concerns try this method!

Dragon Girl

Hey guys,

As you know if you read my last post, I was snooping around Sephora a few days ago. I picked up an Origins face masks but also checked out the red lipsticks. I thought about picking up another Nars Audacious (I had my eye on Rita), but I ended up getting the Nars Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl. I looked at red lipsticks the last time I was in, and one of the girls recommended Dragon GIrl because she said it looked good on everyone. I rarely believe people when they say that, but after trying it myself and seeing it on two other people in Sephora, I actually think this one does.

This is generally how my hand looks when I leave Sephora. Dragon Girl is the third in from the left.

Verdict: This is my new favorite lipstick. I actually find this stays on better than the audacious, but I still love that formula as well. I’m currently sitting in Panera, and I’ve been wearing this lipstick for 3.5 hours while eating/drinking. It’s worn off a little but still looks pretty darn good. I will say it turned my sandwich a little pink though. Because its a pencil, I find it’s easier to put on than your average lipstick bullet. The color is definitely more of a pinkish red, but there are so many more red Nars Lip Pencil options if you would rather have a darker color.

November Favorites: Makeup & Beauty

Hey guys,

There were so many products that I loved this month, but I managed to narrow it down to by absolute favorites. Some of them you’ve seen before in my other posts, but thats because I love them and use them on the reg!

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Anita and Charlotte – I am absolutely in love with these two colors. I wear Anita almost every day. It’s a pinky nude color that gives you a lips but better look. I’ve worn Charlotte both day and night, and it’s oxblood burgundy. The best thing about the audacious lipsticks is that they stay on for at least 4 hours (much longer than anything else i’ve used) and they don’t feather at all. I’ll definitely be picking up more in the future.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black and White Rollerballs – I’m sure you’re all tired of seeing these in my posts, but they smell soo yummy. The white is floral and the black is spicy/sweet/vanilla-like. I usually combine the two, but i’ve worn them separately as well. This is my first time using rollerballs and I think i’m only gong to purchase them from now on. I tend to get bored with perfumes, so I never use a whole bottle and these are much more affordable and convenient for travel.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum – Okay, so you might remember this from my empties post a while ago when I said I wasn’t going to repurchase it. At the time I wasn’t using it everyday, so I didn’t notice a big difference in my skin. After I ran out I noticed my face started looking really dull. I decided to try it again and now use it everyday under my moisturizer and love it. It actually gives a nice amount of moisture on its own, so my face isn’t peeling or dry like it usually is.

Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 10.53.40 AM

Oscar Blandi Dry Heat Protect Spray – This is the first spray i’ve found that goes on dry. That might seem like a weird request, but I hate having to re-wet my hair with heat spray before I straighten or curl it.

Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 10.53.47 AM

Formula X Nail Polish in Vroom and Ignite – Formula X is hands down the best. These were the colors I wore the most in November. Ignite is a perfect Fall burgundy/red and Vroom is a really festive metallic bronze. I will probably wear both through the winter as well. I do have to admit that Vroom doesn’t stay as well as some of the other colors, but its so pretty that I think it’s worth it.

Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 10.53.57 AM

Blendercleanser Solid – I hate cleaning my makeup brushes but this stuff makes it a million times easier. It’s also perfect for travel.

Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 10.54.05 AM

L’Oreal Ever Pure Shampoo and Conditioner – I talked about this stuff in my last post. It’s a great drugstore shampoo/conditioner, and it’s safe on color treated hair. The smell is also really fresh and lovely.

Brush Talk

Hey guys,

I’ve been using Bare Mineral Brushes for a really long time. They came with a Bare Mineral set that I bought about 4 or 5 years ago, and for the most part they worked well. They’ve started to become a bit worn though, and I’ve read a lot of blog posts about how using good brushes can really change your makeup. I started by picking up the Sephora Pro Flawless Airbrush when I bought my foundation, and i’ve slowly collected more since then. I also still use a few brushes that aren’t Sephora Pros, so i’ll talk about them as well.

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 12.06.37 PM

Sephora Pro Flawless Airbrush #56 – This does an amazing job with foundation and blends concealer in nicely. It also doesn’t suck up a lot of product, so I only need one pump of foundation and don’t have to waste it.

Sephora Pro Angled Blush Brush #49 – I noticed a big difference between this blush brush and the bare minerals one I was using. This one isn’t scratchy at all, and it’s smaller so you can put your blush in exactly the right place.

Sephora Pro Angled Contour Brush #75 – I absolutely love this! I use it for my bronzer, and it really takes a lot of the mystery out of contouring. Like the blush brush, it also has a smaller head so placement is easy.

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 12.06.46 PM

Sephora Pro Blending Brush # 27 – These guys are the gems of my brush collection. I actually have three of them which might seem excessive, but I like to have at least one clean one for blending out my eyeshadow at the end. If you don’t have a blending brush, and you like a smokey eye, you should probably pick one up right meow.

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 12.06.53 PM

Paint Brush – Ok, i know this is weird. I’ve had this in my collection forever, but it really comes in handy. I think using a paint brush for certain things is amazing option because they are always really soft but super cheap. I usually use it as a lip brush if I’m putting on a dark color, and also for liquid eyeliner and covering blemishes with concealer.

Essence of Beauty Crease Brush – I just had to look this up because its been in my makeup collection forever, and I’m pretty sure I stole it from my sister. You can apparently get this brand from ultra and CVS, and I have to say it’s really soft and I love it. This is the only one i’ve had form this brand, but I would definitely consider trying some others from this brand.

Bare Essentials Max Coverage Concealer Brush – This is the only Bare Minerals Brush I’m still using on the reg. It has held up a lot better than the other brushes, and it does such a nice job at blending concealer under the eyes and on blemishes. This is the brush that I usually bring with me on a night out because it’s small and fits nicely in a clutch, but I also find that it’s just as easy to use your foundation blush for to blend concealer.

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 12.07.01 PM

Blendercleanser Solid – I don’t have a lot of experience with brush cleansers, but i’ve really enjoyed this one so far. It’s a little bar of soap and you wet your brush and rub it across the surface to clean it. I believe this is actually the travel one, and the regular one is a liquid soap. I picked this up instead of the liquid because it received better reviews.
