Makeup Storage

Hey guys,

So lately I’ve seen a lot of bloggers talking about their makeup storage, and it usually involves Muji drawers or other storage pieces that are somewhat pricey. While I would love to have Muji storage galore, I think there are other options that are more personalized and much cheaper.

Here is my pink desk where I do my makeup everyday. You don’t necessarily have to have a desk or vanity just for makeup products. I actually use this desk to do my schoolwork and also for crafting. It was actually an old card table I found in my parents garage and painted pink. You can find a lot of good options at thrift stores and also Ikea if you want something new.

I’ve had this little drawer set since my freshman year of undergrad. It was originally just for desk supplies, but now I use the top two drawers for makeup and the bottom for my supplies. I would eventually like to find some kind of storage for my nail polish, maybe an old type drawer from a thrift shop, but for now I just have it displayed on top.

A lot of the tea I drink comes in little tins, and they are perfect for storing products and brushes. You can also use the bottoms of tupperware and old candle containers (like the one pictured on the right) once you clean them out.

The top container is from Target, and it’s one of my favorite things. I bought it for my apartment in undergrad and still have it because it’s prefect to separate cotton pads, q-tips, flossers, etc. The bottom container is actually a Truvia container that I cleaned out so I could store my cotton balls. I love finding new ways to repurpose things.

This container was actually an old shower shelf that doesn’t fit in my current shower. I took off the suction cups in the back, and now I use it to store all of my hair products. It’s actually quite perfect for it.

As I said, I also use this desk for studying and art projects. While most of those materials are kept in a storage cabinet next to my desk, I do keep my main supplies out for easy use.

I hope this helped you guys come up with ideas for alternative makeup storage. I would love to hear any crafty things you’ve come up with!

Sunday Pamper: Food Edition

Hey guys,

So I woke up today with a hangover, and I didn’t even drink last night. I don’t know if this happens to other people, but every once in a while i’ll feel really crappy due to poor eating habits. I have a serious sweet tooth, and I also hate cooking. If I don’t go to Terry’s for dinner I usually end up eating out or eating something bad.

After sleeping most of the morning, I decided I should go to the grocery store and stock up on some healthier options. I also decided to set some goals: cut down on products with added sugar, eat more veggies, drink more water. I went to Fresh Market and Publix, and this is what i picked up:

Kefir is really yummy and tastes very similar to yogurt. It contains probiotics which are good for digestive health. It does have more added sugar than I wanted, but I haven’t been able to find a plain one. This one is a smoothie consistency, so you can mix it with berries or put it over cereal/granola.

Suzie’s Think Healthy Thin Cakes – These are really yummy with almond butter on them. They have a good crunch and 2 or 3 are the perfect snack size.

I’ve always been scared of quinoa because it seemed really difficult to make. This was my first time making it, and it ended up being soooo easy. Overall it’s a lot like rice in taste and consistency. I added yellow squash, edamame, and onions.

I probably drink way too much tea, but I just can’t stop. This one is great for nighttime because it’s caffeine free, and it has a really fresh/soothing flavor.  I find that tea is a good replacement for dessert or a late night snack. It’s sweet even without adding sugar.

Holiday Hype

Hey guys,

So I have to admit i’m such a Christmas/Holiday girl. It’s barely past Halloween, and i’m already hoarding all things Holiday and loving it. I thought i would share all of the goodies that I love and make me feel in the wintery spirit, even though I live in Florida where it’s not very festive or cold.

All the Scarves

There is something soothing about having a cuddly scarf around your neck. Even if it’s only a little chilly, I still bundle up in one. Plus they really kick your outfit up a notch.

I can’t get over how much I love the Holiday Garland Yankee Candle. It smell like a christmas tree, and it’s just really nice and fresh. I used to work at Lulu, which i’ve mentioned before, and around Christmas they would put out a diffuser with a similar smell. Now it always reminds me of good times and the Holidays.

I’m back in my yoga groove, and i’m so happy about it. Every since it’s cooled down here, i’ve been craving it. I’m not super impressed by the classes offered in Gainesville, especially compared to those that were offered in Philly, but i’m making do. Again, I think Lulu is the reason I love yoga in winter. If any of you are near Manayunk definitely hit up Hotbox Yoga. It’s my absolute favorite, and i miss it soooo much.

Harney & Sons is the bomb. Seriously. These are two of my favorite wintery teas, though the caffeinated Hot Cinnamon Spics is actually my all time fav, but i’m all out right now.

That’s all for now!

Gym Goodies

Hey guys,

I’m finally back in my gym groove after a few weeks of being sick/lazy…mostly the later. When it comes to gym gear I’m a huge Lululemon fan. I worked at the Ardmore, PA store before I moved to Florida, and I just think the quality of their stuff is unmatched. Obviously the prices are pretty steep, but even just having two pairs of their workout pants that you rotate is enough because the quality is really good so they last a very long time even with frequent washing.

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.50.54 PM

Power Y Lululemon Tank – If you have a smaller bust, give these tanks a try. Like most Lulu stuff it has the built in bra, and there are cups you can take in and out. These come in two different fabrics, and I prefer the regular luon over the luon light because it gives more support. I use these for running/weights/classes/yoga.

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.51.03 PM

Lululemon Run: Inspire Crop II – I only have two pairs of these, but I mostly just wear this pair because the others are a size larger and tend to slip down. With that being said, these have withstood a lot of wash and wear and are still going strong. I’ve had these for almost two years now. I’ve had a lot of other brands of running crops, and these feel so light but still hold you in. I find the other brands can’t master that.

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.51.14 PM

Features! Running Socks – I picked these up a few months ago when I bought by running shoes. I was initially really annoyed I bought them because I didn’t need them and was talked into buying them by the guy at the store. I have to say I love them though. They are so squishy and comfy, and they wick sweat really well. LIke my running crops, I only have one pair of these and wash/wear them constantly, and they are holding up nicely.

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.51.22 PM

Brooks Glycerin 12 Running Shoes – I bought these a few months ago at FIT2RUN which is such a great store. They do a lot of tests/measurements before deciding which shoes are right for you, and they were definitely spot on with these. They are comfortable but not bulky like a lot of other running shoes i’ve had in the past.

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.51.29 PM

Lululemon Yoga Mat – Sorry guys, back to the Lulu. These mats are heavier than other brands, but they give you a lot of cushion and have the perfect finish for hot yoga so you don’t slip when things get super sweaty.

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.51.36 PM

Lululemon Wunder Under Pant -I prefer these for yoga because they aren’t slippery like the Run Inspires are during certain poses. I also wear them out and about with boots or toms. Most of the black ones are reversible so you can either wear them all black or flip them around so they have a colored waistband. Nifty!

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.51.46 PM

Gym Bag – For some reason I feel no need to have a gym bag and usually just use smaller reusable bags to throw all my stuff in.

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.51.54 PM

Apple Ear Buds – I really don’t like these for the gym, but I don’t have another pair. Right now I have the Beats by Dre Wireless Headphones, Bose Wireless Headphones, and Wireless Earbuds all on my wish list. I’m going to narrow it down to one, but I haven’t had the time to do a lot of research yet. Earbuds tend to hurt my ears, so I’m leaning towards one of the others. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions!

Quick & Comfy

Hey guys,

So as you know, I’ve been sick for a few days. Luckily i’ve been able to rearrange my schedule a bit so I haven’t had to venture out as much. But there are still a few things I have to attend/get done and that is where my quick and comfy routine comes in.

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – I didn’t have the energy to put on foundation so I chose this. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and makes your skin glow. I really need to pick up the oil free one though because this one makes me breakout sometimes

Hourglass Full Spectrum Mascara in Film Noir

Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown – My brows drive me nuts, so this is what I spent the most time on

Nars Creamy Concealer on Vanilla – Perfect for dark circles under your eyes and red noses

Nars Larger Than Life Life Gloss in Penny Arcade – This gives a nice pop of color and is low maintenance

Nars Bronzer in Laguna

Milani Baked Powder Blush in Luminoso

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze – This is a cream shadow that you can put on the whole lid if you’re in a rush or feeling lazy, and it stays pretty well even without a primer.

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

This whole outfit is from loft besides my trusty Tom’s. The top is just a classic tee, but it’s spruced up with scalloped, textured stripes. The jeans are denim leggings in smokey black, and they are really stretchy and nice. The last piece is just a plain black snuggly cardigan.

I usually carry this stuff around even when I’m healthy. The Teavana tumbler is so amazing and seriously keeps things hot all day long. The Tazo and apple give me energy on long days, and we all know water is a must have at all times.

Sunday Sick Girl Pamper

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of posts. I got sick in the middle of the weekend, and i’m still feeling pretty blah. My regular Sunday routine was switched our for my sick girl edition, which mostly involved laying in bed and watching a lot of Revenge. But here are some of the products I used:

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Head & Shoulders Classic Clean Shampoo – I like to use this when i’m too lazy to use the Ouidad Bay Leaf Exfoliating Treatment that I usually use on Sundays. The Ouidad works well, but it’s kind of complicated/time consuming to use, and the Head & Shoulders does a nice job removing a weekend worth of hair product and moisturizing your scalp.

Local Gainesville Honey – I love to put this in my hot tea when I’m sick. Honey can help soothe coughing and sore throats.

Triple Leaf Cold and Flu Time Tea – There’s nothing like sipping hot tea when you’re sick, and this one is packed with herbs that help you fight your cold. It’s really yummy too.

Alka-Seltzer Plus Night Cold Formula – I’m super sensitive to cold medicines, so this is the first one I have found that doesn’t make me crazy. It’s a little rough because you have to dissolve it in water and drink it, but whatever works.

Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub – I usually use the Jack Black Deep Dive Cleanser, but it’s at Terry’s house. I decided to give this another shot. I still think it’s a little too harsh for my skin though.

Eucerin Original Moisturizing Creme – my poor nose is raw from blowing it so often, so i’ve been using this stuff to moisturize it. I originally got this creme for my face, but it’s crazy thick. I find it’s best to just use for dry patches.

Hope all of you are in good health!

Weekend Outfit

Hey guys,

Terry’s birthday is today, and we’re going out this weekend to celebrate! I wanted to get a cute outfit to wear (of course), but it’s the end of the month and my beauty/fashion budget is almost used up. I decided to pop into Forever 21 yesterday when I went to the mall to pick up his last present and card. I usually avoid this store at all cost because it makes me majorly anxious due to the all-around chaos of it, but I found such a fab budget-friendly outfit!

Striped Crop Top – $7.80

Black Faux Pleather Skirt – $12.90

The crop top isn’t too short and just leaves a little sliver of tummy out, and the pleather skirt has an elastic waistband. I like the elastic waistbands skirts better because otherwise they ride up so bad! I’m still not sure what jewelry I’m going to wear, but i’ll probably use something I already have.
