October Favorites

Hey guys,

Happy Halloween! I can’t believe October is almost over. Here are my favorite products from this month. I tried to pick ones that I haven’t rambled on about in other posts.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black and White Mini Rollerballs –  I used to smell both of these all the time at Sephora and not be too impressed, but I recently read online how you can mix the two together, and omg it’s amazing! I ordered the mini rollerballs because the price was really good, you get both of them, and they are a good size if you want to stick them in your bag.

Loft Double Plaid Infinity Scarf – Scarves are one of my favorite fall accessories, and I absolutely love this one. It’s so warm and cozy and is unique with its double plaid print. Any time it’s even a little chilly here I bundle up in it.

Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder – This is one of those products took me a while to fall in love with. I’ve used a lot of other dry shampoos, and I was frustrated by how difficult it was to use since it isn’t a spray. I have finally gotten used to the powder form and now know how to properly apply it. It gives great volume, and I find it’s even better than the sprays. It also doesn’t leave a crazy white residue in my dark hair.

Sephora Pro Blending Brush #27 – I’ve always bought crappy brushes from drugstores or used my fingers to apply shadows. I never realized how important good quality brushes were until I picked this up. It’s so soft and blends shadows perfectly, and is especially amazing if you like to do a smokey eye. I would definitely recommend the Sephora Professional Brand over others because i think it’s of equal quality and the price is so much better.

Sample Scoop

Hey guys,

So I have a million Sephora samples, and I usually use them for traveling, but I had off today and figured I could give a few of them a whirl and do some reviews. I used the Drybar Texas Tea Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner, The Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint, Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin, and Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

Drybar Texas Tea Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner

Pros: It Gave my hair a lot of volume, free of sulfates, parabens, and phthalates, safe on color treated hair, and smells great

Cons: Shampoo didn’t suds very well, my hair was a little more tangled than usual, and it’s pretty expensive

Verdict: I’m always impressed when a product actually gives my hair volume, so I think I will end up buying this at some point. It’s also sulfate free and safe on colored hair, so that’s super important to me too.

The Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint

Pros: Looked ok once I had all of my makeup on, has SPF 15, Parabens, Sulfates, and Phthalates free

Cons: really thick, felt heavy on the face, clumped in the creases, difficult to apply

Verdict:  I don’t have a lot of experience with Hourglass products, but I always hear great things about them. But clearly I wasn’t loving this product. I don’t think I would ever buy it because there are so many other products out there that are lightweight and easy to apply but still have great coverage.

This is with just the Hourglass Tint on and now blending in some Nars Concealer under the eyes and on some spots. You can see that the coverage was pretty good. It was just a little to cakey for me

Next is the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer in Sin

Pros: The color is a really pretty champagne that could be worn on its own or with something over it, has stayed well so far

Cons: It is extra heavy on the lids. I’m pretty sure this is just because of the shimmer in it

Verdict: I probably wouldn’t purchase this because it’s heavy, and I like to play around with eyeshadow so I would probably just get the plain one if anything.

You can see here how nice the color is. I did end up putting on eye shadow from the Naked palatte over it because I wanted to see if it still looked ok with it layered. It ended up coming out pretty well even with the sin under it.

Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara

Pros: Gives you separated and volumized lashes, has a reflective jet black sheen

Cons: The formula has thickened in the tube a little

Verdict: Gah, I really really love this stuff. I have already used the sample a few times, but each time I realize more and more how brilliant it is. The reflective sheen sounds strange, but it gives it such a unique look. I think it will be a tough decision for me next time I need to get mascara. It’s going to be between the Dior New Look or this stuff.

This is the finished makeup look with the samples mentioned and Nars Deep Throat Blush, Nars Laguna Bronzer, and Nars Lip Gloss in Dolce Vita with a little bit of the concealer on it to make it a tad lighter.

Quick & Comfy

Hey guys,

So as you know, I’ve been sick for a few days. Luckily i’ve been able to rearrange my schedule a bit so I haven’t had to venture out as much. But there are still a few things I have to attend/get done and that is where my quick and comfy routine comes in.

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – I didn’t have the energy to put on foundation so I chose this. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and makes your skin glow. I really need to pick up the oil free one though because this one makes me breakout sometimes

Hourglass Full Spectrum Mascara in Film Noir

Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown – My brows drive me nuts, so this is what I spent the most time on

Nars Creamy Concealer on Vanilla – Perfect for dark circles under your eyes and red noses

Nars Larger Than Life Life Gloss in Penny Arcade – This gives a nice pop of color and is low maintenance

Nars Bronzer in Laguna

Milani Baked Powder Blush in Luminoso

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze – This is a cream shadow that you can put on the whole lid if you’re in a rush or feeling lazy, and it stays pretty well even without a primer.

This whole outfit is from loft besides my trusty Tom’s. The top is just a classic tee, but it’s spruced up with scalloped, textured stripes. The jeans are denim leggings in smokey black, and they are really stretchy and nice. The last piece is just a plain black snuggly cardigan.

I usually carry this stuff around even when I’m healthy. The Teavana tumbler is so amazing and seriously keeps things hot all day long. The Tazo and apple give me energy on long days, and we all know water is a must have at all times.

Sunday Sick Girl Pamper

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of posts. I got sick in the middle of the weekend, and i’m still feeling pretty blah. My regular Sunday routine was switched our for my sick girl edition, which mostly involved laying in bed and watching a lot of Revenge. But here are some of the products I used:

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Head & Shoulders Classic Clean Shampoo – I like to use this when i’m too lazy to use the Ouidad Bay Leaf Exfoliating Treatment that I usually use on Sundays. The Ouidad works well, but it’s kind of complicated/time consuming to use, and the Head & Shoulders does a nice job removing a weekend worth of hair product and moisturizing your scalp.

Local Gainesville Honey – I love to put this in my hot tea when I’m sick. Honey can help soothe coughing and sore throats.

Triple Leaf Cold and Flu Time Tea – There’s nothing like sipping hot tea when you’re sick, and this one is packed with herbs that help you fight your cold. It’s really yummy too.

Alka-Seltzer Plus Night Cold Formula – I’m super sensitive to cold medicines, so this is the first one I have found that doesn’t make me crazy. It’s a little rough because you have to dissolve it in water and drink it, but whatever works.

Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub – I usually use the Jack Black Deep Dive Cleanser, but it’s at Terry’s house. I decided to give this another shot. I still think it’s a little too harsh for my skin though.

Eucerin Original Moisturizing Creme – my poor nose is raw from blowing it so often, so i’ve been using this stuff to moisturize it. I originally got this creme for my face, but it’s crazy thick. I find it’s best to just use for dry patches.

Hope all of you are in good health!

Weekend Outfit

Hey guys,

Terry’s birthday is today, and we’re going out this weekend to celebrate! I wanted to get a cute outfit to wear (of course), but it’s the end of the month and my beauty/fashion budget is almost used up. I decided to pop into Forever 21 yesterday when I went to the mall to pick up his last present and card. I usually avoid this store at all cost because it makes me majorly anxious due to the all-around chaos of it, but I found such a fab budget-friendly outfit!

Striped Crop Top – $7.80

Black Faux Pleather Skirt – $12.90

The crop top isn’t too short and just leaves a little sliver of tummy out, and the pleather skirt has an elastic waistband. I like the elastic waistbands skirts better because otherwise they ride up so bad! I’m still not sure what jewelry I’m going to wear, but i’ll probably use something I already have.

Wish, Wish

Hey guys,

One of the things that makes a rough start to the week better is shopping. But i’m a grad school girl, and if I went shopping every time I needed to relieve stress, I would be dead broke. So I started thinking about how important it is to make wish lists.

^ This is my makeup wish list from my Evernote app

Wish lists help you:

  • Stick to your budget/get the best deals –  if you know exactly what you’re looking for, and also have a budget in mind, you can search around in stores and online for sales and coupons.
  • Understand what you actually need in your closet/makeup bag – There are things we need and things we want. Make two different wish lists for these categories.
  • Pick the best splurge if you’re treating yourself – Everyone needs to splurge once in a while, but why not splurge on something that you’ve been eyeing up for a while rather than something random
  • Know what you want for christmas/birthday – My mom always asks me for ideas for Christmas and my birthday. It’s so nice to already have a list made up and to know it’s stuff that i’ve actually thought about a lot and really want.
  • Feel like you’re shopping! – At least to me, window shopping gives you the same excited feeling as going out to the store and purchasing.

My wish list process:

  • Make a general budget
  • Include at least a little bit of of money for fun (shopping, eating out, etc)
  • Use Evernote to make word lists of things you need, splurges, etc.
  • Use Polyvore to make visual lists and to see how different pieces look together
  • Research the items you have on your lists to make sure they get good reviews
  • Stick to the budget you made and decide if you want to spend it on smaller items or save up for a splurge
  • Screen Shot 2014-10-21 at 10.27.29 AM

This is my Fall Wish List from Polyvore. I’m in serious need of some staples including black heels, black sneakers, black jeans, and a nude everyday lipstick. I don’t need to pick all of these up in the exact brands I have on here, but it just gives me an idea of what i’m looking for.

Hope this helps!
